The official game of the 2010 World Rally Championship season, WRC: World Rally Championship puts users in the driver’s seat of a fast-and-furious rally racer as it blazes down dirt roads and through hairpin turns.

The WRC: World Rally Championship Game

Rally racing is not as big as NASCAR, Indy or F1, but it does have a niche of millions out there, particularly as it pertains to video games. Rally racing in games is becoming a popular medium, rising in popularity as games become more graphically intense and feature-rich. WRC: World Rally Championship is the official game of the circuit and features all the different drivers and cars of the Championship Series.

The first thing to take note of with the game is its realism. There are many rally racing games out there that provide generic cars and generic racers. WRC: World Rally Championship is on par with games like Madden and the NBA 2K series, in that you get to play with the real athletes and race toward a real championship within your respective league.

Features of WRC: World Rally Championship

In terms of graphics and how this game stacks up to the competition, it’s fairly simplistic. The graphics look pretty good, but it’s more akin to a game on the PS2 vs. the PS3, for better context. There’s also a lot to be desired with the demo version. One doesn’t expect the full game inside of a demo; paying the full price is the only way to unlock the goodies. But WRC could have still added more than two stages and two cars in their demo. You don’t get to experience much of the game before deciding if you want to buy it or not.

The file size is also rather large, coming in at a whopping 945.8 MB. Needless to say, you need to have some room on your HDD. Beyond that, you’re also going to need at least a mid-range computer. 4GB of RAM, a fast HDD, and an independent GPU are preferable options to have if you plan on experiencing the game with a proper frame rate and no glitches or artifacts.

If you have a decent computer, then the game is pretty exciting. The driving is more realistic than one might expect, and you can experience the weight of the vehicles as they traverse the tracks. The competition is also good; you’re not going to smoke the competition, unless you set the game to its easiest level.

At the end of the day, though, it’s the authentic lists of cars and drivers that draw people to the game. WRC: World Rally Championship is not the best game out there, but it is one of the most authentic.
